Kelly Frederick Mizer, Creator

I have always had an affection for worry dolls and crystals. I like the idea of whispering my worries and wishes to a little doll, tucking it under the pillow, and trusting magic to take over. I like the idea of putting a ruby fuchsite thumb stone in my pocket, trusting it to protect me or to hold the energy of the day. I like how both of these things make imagination feel powerful, capable, palpable.

I like the feeling of faith. It reminds me of sitting in my grandma’s big olive green Oldsmobile staring at her Saint Christopher totem on the dashboard, fully believing he would keep us safe. I like praying to Saint Anthony when I cannot find things and I am obsessed with hiring angels to manifest desires. All of it makes me feel connected to something bigger. Dolls, totems, lucky charms, tarot cards, spirit animals all give me license to play in a way that makes me feel deeply rooted.

The pocket angels are crystals and worry dolls combined! They have names and jobs. Ted, for example, keeps you afloat. Rosie helps you hold your pee on long car rides. The pocket angels are also a nod to my brother who spent countless childhood hours creating architectural plans out of masking tape on our shared hardwood bedroom floor with me, filling the blueprints of rooms with tiny Fisher Price people, and who today, continues to teach me to trust my own imagination as a manifestation tool.

I am a storyteller. I graduated from School of the Visual Arts as a painting major, but after teaching art for almost thirty years my own art is all over the place: 3D, design, photography, mixed media, illustration. Anyone who has ever effectively taught for a long while knows that students are the best teachers. If it weren’t for all the things I had to learn while teaching, having to teach a sculpture class, having to learn Photoshop, for example, The Pocket Angels might never have been born.

A number of years ago I started a business called My Name is Kelly, in which I created psychic Venn diagrams inspired by crystal grids that I photographed for clients. Once the diagrams were complete I held thirty minute phone conversations with the subject of the drawing, tuning into their guides and angels, sharing with them what I felt and heard. Ultimately I stopped because I felt like so many people wanted me to provide answers, when really, the answers are within, are unfolding, or shift based on the way we each decide to move in this world. My hope in sharing the angels with you is to teach you how to tune into your own stories, your own inner knowing, your own guides. The stories we tell and retell hold clues to our identity, our path forward, and often, in looking at the stories more closely, we can shift our perspective and use them to heal. I will be offering readings again, but not as a way to channel guides, but as a way to help you connect to your own energy and to your artist within.

I grew up in the seventies and was a huge fan of the show Bewitched. Samantha could make anything happen just by wrinkling her nose. I used to lie in my bed late at night working so hard to see if my nose could twitch just like hers. I was convinced that if I could simply master it, I too, could make things happen instantly. It has taken over five decades to find my way to manifesting my reality. My wish for you is that these angels help you find your way in.
